Full name: Narinder Singh Kapany

Who is he: American Physicist, Businessman, Entrepreneur. He is best known for developing Fiber Optics.

How is he Punjabi: Born on October 31st, 1926 in Moga, Punjab to Punjabi parents.

Trivia: He was named as one of the seven 'Unsung Heroes' by Fortune magazine in their ‘Businessmen of the Century’ issue (1999-11-22). He has been a professor at my prestigious American Universities as well.

Who is a Punjabi?

Some believe that the word Punjabi is synonymous with Sikh, which is really not the case. Most who think this way are from some central Indian states, & seem to ignore the fact that Hindus, Muslims, Jains and Christians form a big part of this beautiful community. We live peacefully with mutual respect for all religions.

A true Punjabi is a person who, regardless of his religion, traces his roots to Punjab on both sides of the border of India and Pakistan, or to Haryana, Himachal Pradesh & Chandigarh since these places are parts of the original Punjab before it was divided into states and territories.
